Walk Your Dog Day

February 15, 2021

Walk Your Dog Day is coming up February 23rd! We know, many dogs get walked every day. However, even if your canine pal has a yard to run around in, he’ll still benefit from regular walks. Read on as a Dutchess County, NY vet lists some great reasons to grab that leash and take your furry buddy for a stroll.

Health

One of the biggest benefits of walking Fido every day? It’s great for his health! Just like people, dogs need regular exercise in order to thrive. That daily stroll will keep your pup’s bones and muscles strong, which is very important. It’s also great for his circulation, breathing, and general condition.

Bonding

Another reason walks are so important is that they really do help strengthen that special, beautiful bond of friendship that form between people and pups. This is a great way for you to hang out with your furry bff. You may find that you really look forward to this special time with your canine buddy!

Socialization

Walks also allow both you and your dog to get some socialization. Whether you’re headed to a park to let Fido play with his friends, or just stopping to talk to a neighbor, it’s important to get out and interact with others. Just abide by social distancing guidelines.

Explore

One great thing about dogs is the fact that they always like going to new places. This is a great excuse for you to visit new parks and trails, and discover some beautiful spots you hadn’t seen before.

Stress Reliever

At this point, it almost goes without saying that the past year has been a tough one. Walking is a great way to help work off any depression, stress, or anxiety you feel. Fido will also benefit from the activity and change of scenery. Even just a few minutes of sunshine, fresh air, and exercise can help lift your spirits.

Help Other Pets

Did you know that you can help other dogs by taking your canine companion for a stroll? If you have a smartphone, download the Wooftrax app. The organization donates money to local shelters, based on how far you and Fido go. That’s a wonderful way for you to make a difference in the world!
